Elyse Rylander

OUT There Adventures
Executive Director
Bellingham, WA
Elyse has worked outside with people from all walks of life since she was 16. Her passion for creating nature-based experiences that increase accessibility, interest and fun for every person has taken shape in many projects. Most recently Elyse has undertaken the co-creation of the Seattle-area non-profit OUT There Adventures (OTA). One of only a few programs in the United States focusing on the intersection of the queer community and nature, OTA provides wilderness leadership opportunities specifically tailored to meet the unique needs of queer young people. This work has also allowed Elyse the opportunity to help educate and train outdoor education practitioners on ways to create more inclusive spaces for queer people in their organizations and programs. While launching OTA, Elyse was also a student in the Master of Arts in Adventure Education program through Prescott College where she was able to put forth publications focused on connecting social justice and outdoor/adventure education.
